Amanda Justus, Hickory Center Manager
Winner of the National Media Award
Each year the National Adult Day Services Association (NADSA) solicits nominations for individuals and organizations to recognize the work they do on behalf of participants and families. Nominations are received from across the United States and winners are recognized at an annual conference in the Fall. This year’s winners were recognized on Saturday, September 24, 2011, as part of the annual meeting and luncheon session at the Hilton City Center in Milwaukee, WI.
Amanda Justus, Manager of the Hickory center, won the National Media Award! This award honors an individual or organization responsible for a print or electronic media product of a distinguished nature that advances the goals of NADSA and is deserving of national recognition. Amanda completed a storytelling video project outlining the individual stories of two participants who utilize Adult Life Programs’ services. The video details the advanced health care that can be provided and shows the cost-effectiveness of using Adult Day Services in comparison to other options in long-term care.

What is Adult Day Care?
Adult Day Care provides a safe, supportive environment for individuals who generally cannot be safely left at home alone during the day. Adult Day Care services delay or prevent institutionalization by providing alternative care and enabling adults to remain in their home and communities. It is a great option for functionally impaired adults who may benefit from socialization, support services, recreation and meals in a supervised social setting. This service also provides respite for caregivers so that they can continue to work, manage a household and have that much needed time for themselves. It is a win-win situation for both the participant and caregiver.
